Launch of “Carry Your Case, Sir?” at Bridlington Station.
Memebers of the public are invited to the launch of a specialist book, “Carry Your Case, Sir?” on 3rd October at 11am, on the concourse of Bridlington railway station.
The book, written by Denise Dunnington, uncovers the rich history of the barrow boys and girls who once thrived in the bustling seaside resorts along the Yorkshire Coast. These enterprising individuals transported holidaymakers’ luggage from the railway station to local hotels using their handcrafted barrows.
The book celebrates the unique profession, building upon the recognition generated with the installation of the Barrow Boy statue, crafted by talented local sculptor Stephen Carvill.
Erected last year, the statue stands proudly on the concourse of Bridlington station, serving as a tribute to these hardworking individuals and their significant role in the town’s heritage. The statue not only commemorates their efforts but also sparks conversations about the importance of preserving local history.
Within the pages of “Carry Your Case, Sir?”, readers will find a dedicated chapter detailing the inspiration and artistic journey behind the creation of the Barrow Boy statue, offering insights into the artistry and thought that went into capturing this slice of history.
The Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership invite those that are interested to attend the book launch, where refreshments will be served and the stories of the barrow boys and girls will come to life.
