A popular Bridlington charity shop is celebrating after a successful first year in their new premises.
The Bridlington and Driffield RSPCA shop in opened on 29 January 2022 and is situated on Prospect Street – opposite the War Memorial.
The first RSPCA charity shop opened on New Burlington Road in the late 1980’s and was run by a small band of volunteers. In the mid 1990 the charity moved to a small shop on Quay Road
and by the end of 1999 had moved to a bigger shop on Quay Road until the start of the Covid pandemic in 2020.
A spokesperson for the Bridlington and Driffield RSPCA, explained: “The first year has been so successful thanks to the hard work of our Manager Kate O’Rourke and Julie Thackray (Deputy Manager) and all our volunteers who are so enthusiastic about helping out.”
“Due to the pandemic we were without a shop at all
for almost 2 years until we opened this much bigger shop on Prospect Street.”
The charity is planning a ‘First Anniversary Celebration Window’ and will be holding a fundraising Tombola in the shop over the next few weeks as well.
It will also be 60 years in December since the Bridlington branch was first formed, with volunteers and staff are already thinking of ways to celebrate this achievement later in the year.
