Former East Riding of Yorkshire Council Chairman and Bridlington resident and veteran Cllr Liam Dealtry hosted the annual veterans afternoon at the Seacourt Hotel on South Marine Drive, bringing together around 40 former service personnel for an afternoon of sport, fundraising and camaraderie.

Guests watched the annual Army v Navy rugby match on the big screen, with plenty of light-hearted banter and friendly rivalry throughout the event. Cllr Dealtry treated all attending veterans to pie and peas, while a grand raffle raised £350 for his chosen charities, MASH (Military Assistance Social Hub) and SSAFA, the Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association.

Speaking after the event, Cllr Dealtry, who previously served in the Army, said: “It was a great afternoon with lots of friendly rivalry. As an ex-British Army serviceman, the charities I have chosen for my year were an automatic pick.”

Despite a spirited comeback from the Army, the Navy secured a 41-36 victory, delighting many of the veterans in attendance. Cllr Dealtry also thanked the Seacourt team for their “fabulous food and wonderful hospitality.”
