An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to Bridlington on Sunday, 31 May 2026, for the second time in less than 24 hours following the discovery of a suspicious object on the town’s seafront.

The incident prompted a significant emergency services response, with Bridlington Coastguard and Humberside Police establishing a safety cordon around part of South Marine Drive promenade and an adjoining section of beach. Members of the public were advised to avoid the area while specialist teams assessed the situation.
Emergency services remained at the scene for several hours as a precaution, with officers taking a cautious approach due to the nature of the object and its location on the shoreline.

Following a thorough examination, the object was determined not to pose a danger to the public. However, in line with established safety procedures, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team carried out disposal of the item.
The cordon was subsequently lifted and normal access to the promenade and beach was restored.

Police and coastguard officials thanked members of the public for their patience and cooperation while the incident was dealt with. No injuries were reported, and the operation was concluded safely and successfully.
