Headlands School have this afternoon confirmed they were one of 400 schools across the country to have received a hoax email claiming ‘a student has been sent to the school with a bomb.’
Humberside Police released the following statement earlier today after they were contacted by schools regarding the concerning email :
“We would like to reassure parents after a number of schools across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire received fake bomb threats this morning.
Nationally, more than 400 schools and colleges have received emails claiming a device has been planted and demanding cash.
Locally, 19 schools have been in touch to say they have been sent the email.
Det Supt Tony Cockerill said: “We have been liaising with our counter terrorism colleagues across the country and it is not believed that the threats are credible.
“We have spoken to all schools who have contacted us, reassured them that there is no need to evacuate and offered them security advice.”
Headlands School headteacher Sarah Bone, made the following announcement via the Schools text messaging system “We have received a hoax email. Students will leave school at 2:45pm. Thanks for your support. Mrs Bone.”
It is understood Headlands received the email around 1.38pm, immediately informed the police who reassured them of the hoax emails circulating the country and sent a message out to parents straight away informing them.
