The dedication of the Bridlington War Memorial Garden has taken place today (28 October), along with the launch of the annual Poppy Appeal in the Promenades Shopping Centre.
Plans for the Bridlington Remembrance Day service are well underway, with the full programme released by Bridlington Town Council who will once again be organising the popular event.
Veterans and councillors have already been busy decorating the railings around the War Memorial with huge poppy petals and this year’s occasion – on Sunday 12 November – will see hundreds of veterans, service groups, serving military and dignitaries parade along Quay Road to the Bridlington War Memorial on Wellington Road.
In recent years thousands of members of the public have attended the event, which has become one of the biggest of its kind in the area.
A re-dedication of the Memorial Garden takes place on 28th October at 11.am and this will be followed by the Poppy Appeal Launch at 12.noon in the Promenades Shopping Centre where there will be a dedicated stand in place in the run up to Remembrance Sunday.
A spokesperson for the Town Council said: “The Remembrance Sunday service and commemoration is one of the biggest events in the Bridlington calendar and its always good to see so many people attend.”
For any organisations or individuals that wish to purchase Poppy wreathes (£25), memorial crosses (£3) or general poppies (£1), please call into the BTC offices on Marshall Avenue to order.
Parking for the ceremony is available in free of charge in all ERYC carparks on the 12 November and also in the Harbour Commissioners car park on Bridlington harbour top.
Order of Remembrance Day Parade 2023
- Parade and Band to arrive at Station Approach no later than 10:30am
- Parade will leave Station Approach at approximately 10:40am
- Service will commence at the War Memorial Gardens approx 10:55am
- Two minutes silence at 11.am with Last Post and Reveille
- Remainder of service, readings and wreath laying
- After the Service, the Parade will march onto King Street and be officially dismissed
