Mystery surrounds the dumping of a dead porpoise behind houses in Bridlington.
The sea creature, weighing between 50-70kg, (110 – 154lbs) was discovered in an alleyway behind houses on New Burlington Road in the town.
The location is at least half a mile from the sea and British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) who attended the incident were at a loss to understand how the carcass was taken to the location.
Em Mayman from BDMLR said: “It’s very strange and we were checking the date to make sure it wasn’t April 1st!
“It’s a very young animal, so we’re intrigued as to how and why it got from the beach to where it was reported from.
“Huge thanks to those who reported it and Humberside Police for their assistance in the matter.
“It has been uplifted for examination in London by CSIP so hopefully we will find more information about it.
“We primarily work with live animals (seals, whales, dolphins, porpoise) but we can assist in their recovery for CSIP if it is a cetacean.” added Em.
Anybody who has any information can report it to the police and quote Log 84 4/4/24.
