Police officers in Bridlington seized nine e-scooters and two e-bikes during a targeted operation aimed at tackling the illegal use of the vehicles as part of a National Day of Action yesterday (6 June).

The Bridlington Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) joined forces with Rural Task Force drone pilots and members of the Special Constabulary to address ongoing concerns raised by residents about the unlawful use of e-scooters and e-bikes in the town.
In recent months, officers have been engaging with the public to provide advice and education about the legal requirements surrounding the use of these vehicles. During the enforcement activity, several first-time offenders were also given warnings and guidance by officers.

A police spokesperson said: “As part of the National Day of Action, the Bridlington Neighbourhood Policing Team worked alongside Rural Task Force drone pilots and the Special Constabulary to address ongoing concerns surrounding the illegal use of e-scooters and e-bikes.”
They added: “Over recent months, officers have been engaging with members of the public, providing advice and education regarding the lawful use of these vehicles. During today’s operation, the team seized nine e-scooters and two e-bikes, while also issuing warnings and guidance to a number of first-time offenders.”

The spokesperson urged anyone considering using an e-scooter or e-bike to familiarise themselves with the relevant legislation before riding on public roads, pavements or other public highways.
“Please ensure you understand the relevant legislation and regulations before using an e-scooter or e-bike,” they said. “Further information is available online.”
The operation formed part of ongoing efforts by local officers to tackle anti-social and illegal activity in the community under the campaign messages of #NotInMyCommunity and #YouSaidWeDid.
