A much-loved Bridlington Christmas tradition has suffered a major setback after thieves broke into the storage unit housing Bridlington Round Table’s famous Santa Sleigh and stole several items.
The charity revealed the break-in this week, describing the incident as both disappointing and upsetting for volunteers who work tirelessly each year to bring festive cheer to families across the town.
For generations, the Santa Sleigh has toured Bridlington’s streets, allowing children to meet Father Christmas while raising thousands of pounds for local charities, community groups and good causes.
Round Table members said the theft was difficult to understand, particularly as the sleigh and its equipment exist solely to benefit the local community.
A spokesperson said: “The most disappointing part is that they haven’t just stolen from Round Table. They’ve stolen from something that exists for local children, families, charities and community groups.”
Despite the setback, organisers have vowed that the festive favourite will return this Christmas.
“We’ll dig deep to replace what needs replacing and, rest assured, Santa’s Sleigh will be back out this Christmas,” the spokesperson added.
The charity is now appealing for information from anyone who may know what happened or who may have seen the missing items.
Round Table members have urged residents to share details of the theft on social media in the hope of recovering the stolen property and identifying those responsible.
Their message remains defiant: “You can steal things from the sleigh. You won’t steal Christmas from Bridlington.”
