A Bridlington woman is set to honour her late husband while raising vital funds for hospice care by taking part in a historic motoring event this summer.

Diane will join the East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club’s 56th East Coast Run on 14 June 2026, travelling in a rare 1903 Cadillac BT4. The route begins at East Park in Hull and winds its way to Sewerby Hall and Gardens, drawing vintage vehicle enthusiasts from across the region.

She is collecting sponsorship for the journey in aid of Saint Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough, which cared for her husband Mike before he died last year. Mike was a respected local historian and well known as the Echo’s history writer.

Diane will take part alongside the Bridlington Veterans Group, combining remembrance with community spirit.

The Cadillac itself has a rich local history. Its original owner, John Vere Kinsley, was among Bridlington’s wealthiest residents in the early 1900s and a keen motoring enthusiast. Records show he took part in early automobile events and was even fined for speeding in 1906, shortly before his death.

Current owner Pete Wood has painstakingly traced the car’s past, uncovering documents, photographs and a logbook that reveal its journey, including a period in the United States after being bought by an American serviceman.

The vehicle returned to Bridlington in 2023, making Diane’s upcoming journey both a personal tribute and a celebration of local heritage.
