Weather warnings are in place from as early as 3am -Friday 18 February- and will continue throughout Friday as it is forecast winds could reach up to 90mph in areas over the region.
The Met Office have issued an amber weather warning for Bridlington and surrounding areas between 5am and 9pm tomorrow.
Headlands School in Bridlington have decided to close early tomorrow due to the forecasted bad weather, with students allowed to leave the site from 12 noon.
The school have stated on their social media channel:
“Weather reports in respect of Storm Eunice suggest blizzard conditions, strong winds and the possibility of snow as tomorrow progresses – in particular from lunchtime onwards.
To ensure everyone can arrive home safely from school and work, we have made the precautionary decision to allow students and staff to leave the site from 12 noon tomorrow.”
The storm, named Eunice, is expected to cause “significant disruption” due to extremely strong winds.
This damage could include flying debris posing “danger to life”, prolonged power cuts, interruption to travel including road and bridge closures, and interruption to public transport services.
Tonight’s forecast ahead of the storm predicts isolated showers and clear spells initially, before becoming chilly.
Then it is thought to turn cloudy, with heavy rain spreading northeastwards.
TransPennine Express (TPE), which has trains running to and from Scarborough as well as Bridlington and other local stations is urging customers not to travel tomorrow, with Storm Eunice likely to cause significant disruption.
With weather warnings in place and strong winds expected across the North of England and into Scotland, emergency speed restrictions are being put in place by Network Rail and TPE will be operating a minimal train plan.
As a result of the disruption, the train company is strongly urging customers to instead, travel today (Thursday) or Saturday instead.
