After 18 consecutive seasons of junior grassroots football, the Burlington Jackdaws have now transitioned into Bridlington Rovers – a club established in 1903 which will continue to progress, expand, develop, and ultimately ensure young players have a place to play football in their 120th year in Bridlington.
Jackdaws Chairman Chris Kirkham has paid tribute and gives his thanks for the past 17 years he has spearheaded the popular football organisation.
“The legacy of the Jackdaws badge will remain and be involved in the community under the foundation.
From the first game in Cherry Burton to the last penalty kick in the under 11s Cup Final at the ERFA centre, we have seen many success stories and careers flourish.
What began as one team grew into an established club in the East Riding FA, winning many prestigious awards – most notably the club of the year, coach of the year (Bradley Holmes) and myself the community hero of the year at the Promenades awards.
The club pulled together during lockdowns, tough times, the Eve Beli’eve campaign, presentations at the Spa, fundraising, the Simon Tindall memorials, Dom Taylor’s social media support and club photos, whilst all being in red and black on a Thursday evening together at our home.
For me personally, it’s time to reflect, have time with my family and friends, and focus on other football projects and personal development with new goals.
It’s been a journey that is now complete. One that can be cherished with good memories – challenging at times, making decisions not everyone agrees with, whilst doing the things my way, the right way. I fulfilled a dream, left no stone unturned, and pushed boundaries as we as a club gave it everything. It’s now a time not to be sad, but to look at the many positive stories made and shared, looking to the future.
All good things come to an end, and I would like to thank everyone who committed their valuable time to the club over the years.
