The Expanse Hotel, one of Bridlington’s best-known seafront hotels, has been sold after being placed on the market in January 2025.
The landmark property, situated on North Marine Drive, was marketed by hotel and leisure property specialists Christie & Co.
The company’s website now lists the hotel as Sold, although the sale price and the identity of the purchaser have not been disclosed in the information available.
The hotel was marketed as an iconic and historic property overlooking Bridlington’s promenade, offering 44 bedrooms alongside seven self-catering apartments.
The sales particulars also highlighted the possibility of alternative uses, subject to planning permission, making the building a potential opportunity for developers as well as hospitality operators.
The property was originally built in 1937 by Edmond Cooper Briggs and remained in the same family for four generations. It had been a familiar feature of Bridlington’s seafront for almost 90 years.
The hotel and adjoining Marine Bar closed in January 2025, with the family citing difficult trading conditions as the reason for ending operations. The family said at the time that it would continue to operate the apartments and residential flats.
When first marketed in January 2025, Christie & Co advertised the property with freehold offers over £2.75 million
It is not yet clear who has purchased the property, how much was paid or what plans the new owner has for the building.
