Over two thousand people have signed a petition to help prevent the proposed closure of the main Post Office in Bridlington.

On the 13th November the Post Office announced that it would be seeking to close 115 ‘loss making’ post office branches around the country.
Part of the proposed closure programme includes the main Bridlington Post Office, situated at 15-17 Quay Road.

Locally, jobs are at risk and nationally over 1,000 staff are at risk of redundancyBridlington and the Wolds MP Charlie Dewhirst has joined forces with the Echo to ensure that the town centre services provided by the Post Office are not lost.
Said Charlie: “Anyone who has been to Bridlington Post Office will know how busy it is and how vital the service it offers are, to residents in Bridlington and the surrounding areas.

“With recent closures of bank branches in Bridlington the Post Office has become a key lifeline for residents, allowing them to access banking, benefits, or pension services. Services my constituents rely on.
“The recent announcement provides little reassurance for Bridlington residents who depend on this support – I acknowledge people’s habits have shifted over the past 20 years to more online use however the number of Crown branches has only gone in one direction and that is down.

“It’s essential that a town as large as Bridlington retains adequate Crown Post Office facilities. I will be urging the Post Office to keep this vital service open for our community.” added Charlie.
