A Bridlington sea swimmer has put out an unusual appeal after losing her false leg.
Brenda Ogden was enjoying a dip with the Flamborough Flippers Swimming Group, when her titanium replacement leg became detached.
Said Brenda: “It was my first time swimming with group and they were so helpful and supportive, but my leg detached and sunk. It is rather heavy, but it was made personally for me and it will be expensive to replace.”
Members of the swimming group helped Brenda back onto the beach and a friend went to collect a spare leg that Brenda had back at home so she could walk up to the top of North Landing. An online GoFundMe page has been created which stands at £700, but around £3,000 is needed for the replacement.
Said Brenda: “I anybody finds the leg with I would be so grateful if they could let me know.”

On Sunday, April 6th, Brenda Ogden had joined the Flamborough Flippers for her very first sea swim at Bridlington North Beach.
What began as an exciting challenge quickly turned into a heartbreaking setback when Brenda lost her custom-made titanium prosthetic leg, worth £3,000 in the sea.Since then, members of the Flamborough Flippers and locals have tirelessly patrolled the beach, hoping against the odds to recover the missing limb.
The online appeal says:
“Brenda is no stranger to resilience. A devastating car crash four years ago left her with a broken back and the loss of her leg.
“Despite the challenges, she’s remained active and determined, taking up running and now sea swimming as a way to push herself ahead of her 70th birthday.
“We’re launching this GoFundMe to help Brenda replace her lost prosthetic blade and keep her moving forward. If, by some miracle, the original leg is found, all donations will be redirected to a charity of Brenda’s choice the RNLI, in recognition of their invaluable support.“Let’s help Brenda get back to doing what she loves, with strength, spirit, and her community behind her.”
