A gifted young artist from Bridlington is making waves in the local music scene with his budding career. Meet Harry Traves, a remarkably talented 12-year-old solo musician who is captivating audiences in the region with his impressive musical abilities.
Harry is a multi-instrumentalist, skillfully playing the guitar, piano, drums, and even the accordion, primarily through self-teaching. He also attends Sophie Coyne’s drama group, where Sophie doubles as his piano tutor.
Instead of the typical chart-topping hits favoured by many his age, Harry enjoys performing classic songs from legends such as The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and Jerry Lee Lewis. His ultimate aspiration, beyond his studies at Headlands School, is to pursue a career as a musician and singer.
Harry dedicates around five hours daily to practice, driven entirely by his passion for music. He spends nearly every waking moment playing and singing, often bringing his guitar to school and entertaining fellow students on the field during breaks. He has tried his hand at busking several times, earning a tidy sum in the process. Recently, he also had the honour of being one of the opening acts at the Staxtonbury Music Festival.
As a cherry on top, Harry has received an invitation to perform at the iconic Cavern Club in Liverpool after catching the attention of their resident artist on social media.
His parents, Matthew and Charlotte, have been delighted with his progress: “He’s the most dedicated child and has an unwavering love for music. It occupies his thoughts constantly and he spends his entire day immersed in it. We are incredibly proud of him. He has always had a flair for performance, but over the last year, he has truly stepped up his game. We’re thrilled that he’s chasing his dreams and living life to the fullest. He’s also been invited back to his old school, Bay Primary, to inspire younger students interested in music by performing a short set for them.”
Harry’s Upcoming performances include:
• Rack n Roll, Scarborough
• Sewerby Hall and Gardens
• The Pavilion
• Hook & Parrot
• Graphtonbury at the Telegraph
• CYP Family Fun Day
