A well-loved cafe in Bridlington is to close after the popular couple who run it have decided to retire.
Maxine Greaves and Russell Brown have run the Victoria Mill Tea Rooms, situated on Sawmill Yard, just off Manor Street, for five years – and in their words…“loved every minute.”
The tearooms have been a base for regular veterans group meetings, Friends of Bridlington, WI and church groups as well as thousands of customers over the years.
Said Maxine:“We will miss our customers – they are like family. We always get talking and they come in 3/4 times a week. Regulars enjoy visiting Russ with his bizarre sense of humour and he has become affectionately known as the ‘grumpy’ man in the pinny.”

“The lease has come up for renewal, and with food and fuel costs soaring we were getting squeezed at all sides.” explained Maxine.
The couple will still be staying around the area, running plant stalls and attending various markets selling hats and gloves and accessories.
In years gone by they have attended events at Lincoln Christmas Market, Dorset Fair, Tatton Park and also many of the local fairs and events.
They also ran sportswear stall in the Promenades Shopping Centre and a plant shop on Quay Road.

“Our hearts will be broken as we serve our last cuppa, but age is taking us over and to be honest we are getting a bit long in the tooth – but we will be popping up somewhere – so watch this space.”
