February is a perfect time of year to encourage the birds in your garden to find a safe place to nest.
And that’s just what’s happening on the Danes Dyke nature reserves too during National Nest Box Week.
A spokesperson said: “Rather than buying a nest box, why not have a go at building a blue tit nest box with us on the nature reserve.
“All equipment and materials provided. You will use hammers and nails and the event is suitable for everyone.
“We will give you guidance with making your nest box, but younger children will need your help with putting the box together.
“The ticket price includes making one box to take home. You may like to make an additional box for the nature reserve too (no extra charge).”
The event takes place on 21 February, 2025 at Danes Dyke Nature Reserve, between Sewerby and Flamborough.
There are a total of 3 sessions:-
Session one: 10am – 11am, Session two: 11am – 12pm, Session three: 12pm – 1pm.
Cost is £5 – and the ticket is for you and your family to make one bird box to take home.
There may be opportunity to make an additional box for the nature reserve (depending on spare resources and for this there is no additional charge).
