Demolition work on a building that was the home of three separate supermarket chains has begun.
The property is situated on the junction of Promenade between York Road and Carlisle Road in Bridlington.
The building housed a Co-op supermarket, which took over the premises around 2009. Most recently the building was used by Christ Church for storage and distribution of furniture and goods.
As well as other uses, over the decades it was also a Somerfield supermarket, and in the 1990s the upstairs of the building was home to a full size ten-pin bowling alley and entertainment complex.
The Kwik Save hyper market chain, one of the forerunners of discount supermarkets, also had a branch on the site for over a decade.
Plans have indicated that when the building has been fully demolished the area will be used as a pay and display car park.
Demolition work is being undertaken by West Yorkshire based Jennings of Pudsey.
