Crew memebers had an unexpected call out for the Filey Lifeboat team yesterday at 9:02am (Monday, 9th September).

The call out from HM Coastguard reported a sighting of “Someone in the Water” in the sea beneath the towering Bempton cliffs.
The crew swiftly sprang into action, launching their vessel and racing to the specified location.

To their surprise, what they found was not a person in trouble, but rather a training dummy floating in the water.
The training dummy had gone missing from Hartlepool two weeks prior, only to be carried by the currents a staggering 50 nautical miles south to its current location near Bempton cliffs.

The crew, relieved to find no real person was in danger, retrieved the dummy and returned back to the lifeboat station at Filey.
