A well known Bridlington hairdresser is retiring, after an incredible 40 years at Jo-An’s.

Cynthia Stevenson will be hanging up her scissors and hair dryer in early February as she closes the doors for the last time at her shop on Marton Road.

“I’ve had lots of loyal customers over the years and many have become good friends.” explained Cynthia.

“When I started working at the shop, the hairdressing took place around the back of the premises. I bought the business in 2001 and have enjoyed every minute of my job.”

“I kept the name Jo-An’s as it was a good, established business” she added.

Nowadays there is less call for perms and more demand for colours and highlights…and Cynthia has always kept up with the trends.

On her retirement, Cynthia said: “I’m planning a family holiday to Egypt and we also have a caravan in Skegness which we will be visiting more.”

Her husband George is a well known calligrapher and he is still taking on commissions from all over the world.

Cynthia is also planning more dog walking and seeing more of her children Andrea and Matthew.

The shop will not be vacant however, as the next door Marton Road Pharmacy is planning to extend into the premises.
