A large number of traveller caravans, trucks and vans have pitched up on Moorfield car park in Bridlington.
Residents who live near the car park have spoken of ‘an intimidating atmosphere, litter everywhere and a disregard for local residents’ after upwards of sixty caravans and vehicles arrived on Monday.
A Covid-19 testing centre, which is based on the car park, was understood to have been forced to temporarily close yesterday as some of the vehicles belonging to the travellers were blocking access and exit points.
Travellers were reported to have started to arrive on Monday evening (28th June). It is understood they are part of a group that was based on Pickering Park in Hull.
The nearby Gasworx skatepark posted:
“As emergency vehicles cannot currently access the skatepark – we have no choice but to officially close the skatepark.
Risks will be assessed on a daily basis.”
A junior cricket training programme hosted by Bridlington Cricket Club- which has its base near to the car park – has postponed the All Stars & Dynamos Cricket session tonight (Wednesday 30th June) with organisers citing health and safety concerns.
They said: “Sadly we have had to make the most difficult decision POSTPONING tomorrow evenings All Stars & Dynamos Cricket. As there is a large congregation of people and vehicles in the car park surrounding Bridlington Cricket Club.
“As a club we believe yourself and your child’s health and safety is of the utmost importance to us as well as any of your vehicles.
We will be adding the session to the end of the programme so that you don’t miss any of the 8 sessions.” the club added.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council are aware of the situation and are taking the necessary steps to move the group on.
