Work has officially begun on a major new mural in Bridlington celebrating one of the town’s most significant historical events.

Artist Sam Porter has started work on the large-scale Battle of Flamborough Head mural at Palace Car Park, a project being led by the Bridlington Ambassadors in partnership with Bridlington Town Council and several local organisations.
Martyn Coltman, of the Bridlington Ambassadors, said the group was delighted to see work get underway after months of planning and fundraising.

He said: “We are delighted that artist Sam Porter has now started work on The Battle of Flamborough Head mural on Palace Car Park. Information signs have been posted on the works fencing and, as progress is made, we will regularly post images. In the meantime, why not pop down to see it developing?”
The mural project has received a £5,000 ‘Do It For East Yorkshire’ grant from East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Local Growth Team, alongside support from a number of other sponsors.

Partners involved include Bridlington Town Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council officers, Quay Leisure and the Yorkshire Coast 1779 Group.
Mr Coltman said the overwhelmingly positive public response highlighted the importance of the project for Bridlington’s tourism, heritage and culture.
The mural is expected to be completed by the end of September, with an official unveiling planned shortly afterwards.
