After the Bridlington Echo exclusively revealed the sad story of a Bridlington swimmer losing her prosthetic leg during a sea dip, a GoFundMe page has been launched up to help cover the cost of buying a new leg.
On Sunday, April 6th, Brenda Ogden had joined the Flamborough Flippers for her very first sea swim at Bridlington North Beach.
What began as an exciting challenge quickly turned into a heartbreaking setback when Brenda lost her custom-made titanium prosthetic leg, worth £3,000 in the sea.
Since then, members of the Flamborough Flippers and locals have tirelessly patrolled the beach, hoping against the odds to recover the missing limb.
The online appeal says:
“Brenda is no stranger to resilience. A devastating car crash four years ago left her with a broken back and the loss of her leg.
“Despite the challenges, she’s remained active and determined, taking up running and now sea swimming as a way to push herself ahead of her 70th birthday.
“We’re launching this GoFundMe to help Brenda replace her lost prosthetic blade and keep her moving forward. If, by some miracle, the original leg is found, all donations will be redirected to a charity of Brenda’s choice the RNLI, in recognition of their invaluable support.
“Let’s help Brenda get back to doing what she loves, with strength, spirit, and her community behind her.”
