Under a leaden sky this morning, (11 November), around 200 people gathered at the Bridlington War Memorial on Wellington Road to mark Armistice Day and honour the town’s war dead.
The short, moving ceremony was led by Revd Neil Bowler, whose calm voice opened the remembrance with a prayer for peace and reflection.
Joining him, Brian Maxwell, chairman of the local Royal British Legion Bridlington Branch, delivered poignant readings of the Kohima Epitaph that recognised the sacrifice of generations past.
Representing the Town Council, Cllr Angela Walker, Mayor of Bridlington, stood alongside others paying tribute at the memorial.
As the clock struck 11 o’clock the two-minute silence began. In perfect stillness, the assembled stood shoulder-to-shoulder, with heads bowed in tribute.
The Last Post and reveille was played skilfully on the bugle, with bearers lowering and raising their standards for the start and finish of the tribute to Bridlington’s heroes of war.
