Bridlington and the surrounding community put on Remembrance Day commemorations to be proud of as the country fell silent to honour those who died in two world wars and other conflicts.
At the Bridlington War Memorial on Wellington Road, around 2,000 veterans, services organisations, dignitaries, serving armed forces personnel and members of the public gathered to pay their respects and reflect during a poignant ceremony led by Rev Neil Bowler from the Priory and Rev Mark Carey from Christ Church.
Bridlington Mayor, Cllr John Arthur, laid the wreath on behalf of the town. There was also grateful thanks given to Town Clerk Paula King, who is due to retire at the end of the month.
She has helped to organise Remembrance and other key events over the last 17 years.
A retired RAF pilot was due to fly over the town in his aircraft with a planned Poppy Drop, but was unable to leave his airfield due to flooding.
After the Service of Remembrance, the parade headed along Prospect Street, taking the salute from the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Patrick Farnsworth, the Mayor and other dignitaries.
The parade was then dismissed on King Street with a huge round of applause to mark the end the ceremonial part of Remembrance – a special day to make the Bridlington community proud.
In Flamborough, many villagers also paid their Remembrance Day tributes, with the RNLI crew and volunteers making up part of the parade, along with other groups and organisations.
A parade from St Oswald’s Church after a service to the village War Memorial on Tower Street, saw well over a hundred people attend the event, with several wreaths laid at the foot of the cross.
