Bridlington’s Richard Jones, a prolific author and history writer for the Bridlington Echo, is known for his extensive contributions to historical literature and has revealed the upcoming launch and release of his 25th book, titled Yorkshire Railway Disasters.
The launch is scheduled for 15th August at the Yorkshire Wolds Heritage Railway centre, near Wetwang.
The book will be published by Amberley Publishing.
This latest work encapsulates Richard’s meticulous research into the railway tragedies and accidents that have struck the Yorkshire region, detailing incidents that occurred in notable locations such as Leeds, Bradford, Scarborough, Penistone, Great Heck, Hull, and Lockington.
Many of the victims of these tragic events remain uncommemorated, while some have been honoured with memorials—efforts that Jones has actively championed throughout his career.
In a tribute, Richard has dedicated the book to the memory of his late friend, Patrick John Leonard, who passed away unexpectedly in March 2024. Patrick was instrumental in Richard’s work, providing invaluable images that contributed to this publication and others.
To mark the occasion, an official launch event will take place on 17th August at the Yorkshire Wolds Railway, a heritage railway located near the villages of Fimber and Wetwang in East Yorkshire. Entry to the event is priced at £3, which is redeemable against purchases made in the shop.
