Several Bridlington residents have been left ‘confused’ after bin collections were suspended earlier in the week.
Due to Monday 19 September being declared a bank holiday at short notice due to the Queen’s funeral ceremony, bin collections along with many other council services, were suspended for the day as a mark of respect for the late monarch.

Some residents who live on the Sandsacre estate in the North of Bridlington, put their blue recycling waste bins out again on Tuesday and also on Wednesday (when the brown bin collection also takes place).
One resident who contacted the Echo said: “It was a bit confusing as we put the blue bin out on several occasions thinking that would be collected before the brown bin – but I appreciate ERYC letting us know the situation.”
After contacting ERYC, they were happy to clarify the situation
A spokesman for East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “We cancelled Monday’s blue and brown bin collections as a mark of respect on the funeral day of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“Bin collections returned to normal on Tuesday.
“We posted this message on our social media sites and sent it out on our council app.
“Because of the short notice, we were unable to bring in the usual Bank Holiday collection arrangements.
“Therefore, those with Monday collections, we’ve asked them to please hold on to their waste and it will be emptied on their next scheduled blue or brown bin collection day (Monday 3 October).
“Any extra/overflow blue bin waste can be placed in clear plastic bags and placed next to their blue bins on their next collection day.
“Any extra/overflow brown bin waste can’t be collected in bags, it should be taken to the nearest household waste recycling site.”

“Please note: Please use bags that are clear enough to allow crews to check all contents are recyclable and not general waste. White/clear pedal liners or clear carrier bags can be used. Any bags that aren’t clear, such as black bin bags, won’t be collected.”
