This year the hugely popular and traditional event will run from Wednesday 21-Sunday 25 October and will once again have a huge variety of attractions. During Covid in 2020, the fair was held on King Street with a single ride to keep the tradition unbroken, then in 2021 the Fair was held on the grounds of Bridlington Caravan Centre on Bessingby Industrial Estate, again due to Covid restrictions, thanks to local businessman John Hesp. Despite the temporary move, thousands of visitors flocked to the traditional event which now dates back 825 years.

It is understood that the Bridlington Fair is one of the oldest in the country – dating back to 1200. The fair was previously held on the former Coach Park on Hilderthorpe Road, but moved due to the redevelopment of the area.  For centuries the fair had been held on High Green, near to the Priory Church in the historic Old Town.

The Yorkshire Section of the Great Britain Showmen’s Guild spokesman for Bridlington Funfair John Breeze said: “It’s great to be coming back to Bridlington as we are always assured a warm welcome.”

The official opening of the Funfair will take place at 5pm on Wednesday 21 October, with the Bridlington Mayor, ERYC Chairman, dignitaries and members of the Showmen’s Guild in attendance. As is tradition, each ride that the Mayor and Chairman has a turn on rides of their choice which is also open for locals to ride.
