A road scheme is due to begin next week to improve roads in Great Kelk, Little Kelk and Foston on the Wolds near Driffield.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is to invest £800,000 on resurfacing, patching and strengthening the road and path along Main Street through Great Kelk and Little Kelk, including drainage work, and also resurfacing work along Long Lane, Foston on the Wolds.
Work is due to begin on Monday 22 January and is expected to take up to 14 weeks to complete.
The scheme will involve carrying out road resurfacing along Main Street, Kelk, and Long Lane, Foston on the Wolds, between the Main Street junction and the Gransmoor Lane junction.
The road will also be resurfaced along Long Lane between Main Street, Foston on the Wolds and the Gembling Lane junction.
To start with, the road will remain open under temporary traffic lights while road edge strengthening is carried out for the first two weeks.
Then from Monday 5 February the road will be closed to through-traffic – not local traffic – until Thursday 25 April.
A signed diversion route will be operation via C134 Old Howe Lane, Foston, B1249 Main Street Beeford, A165 to Lissett, C19 Lissett to Burton Agnes, A614 Main Street Burton Agnes to Harpham, C22 Main St/Mill Lane/Station Road, Lowthorpe, and C22 Duckmutton, Lane Kelk.
Access will remain for the emergency services, bin collections and postal services.
Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Residents in this area have been calling for this road to be improved and we are pleased we can now go ahead with these works and upgrade the road.
“We would like to thank local residents and motorists for bearing with us while we carry out these improvements.”
