Humberside Fire and Rescue were called out to Moor Lane in Carnaby at 05:54am this morning, Wednesday, 23 August, to attend reports of a fire at the Carnaby Waste Recycling Centre.

A total Six engines and specialist appliances from Bridlington and nearby stations are at the scene and local residents are being urged to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors shut.
A spokesman for East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “There was a major fire at the Carnaby Household Waste Recycling Site this morning.
“Firefighters were called at around 5.30am.
“The site is closed to residents today and we would urge them to take any tip waste to the nearest sites at Driffield and Hornsea instead, if they need to, or hang on until the Carnaby site reopens.
“As bin collection waste is initially taken to this site from the local area, residents may experience a slight delay to their bin collections over the next few days, but we would ask them to please bear with us.

“The fire is being investigated and the damage is being assessed, but it appears to have started in an area where collected general green bin waste was stored.
“We would like to say a big thank you to firefighters for their efforts which saved the building from further damage, and to staff at the Carnaby site from FCC Environment, which manages our recycling sites, for their actions.”
The fire service said no injuries had been reported and the cause of the fire was at this stage not yet known.

The centre remains closed to the public until further notice.
An full investigation into the cause of the incident will be undetaken once the fire has been fully extinguished.
