The daughter of a Bridlington man who has been missing for exactly seven years has spoken of her desperation to find her father
Twenty year-old Courtney Vernon last saw her father Damion Vernon seven years ago, and she has spoken exclusively to the Bridlington Echo in the hope her desperate appeal is shared around the country.
“I’m now 20 and my little sister Vada Vernon is 8 and my dad he has a one-year-old grandson Lennon too (Courtney’s son who Damion has never seen).” said Courtney.
“Seven years later and it hurts now more than ever. We just want answers.”
Courtney continued: “Crazy to think that seven years ago I could’ve rang him (her father Damion) and spoke and told you about my day.”
“If I knew then that I’d never see you again I’d of hugged you tighter and never let you go. This time of year hurts so much.”
Courtney added: “Damion William Vernon (your grandson) reminds me of you everyday, he will always know who you are and that you’d of loved him so much. Until we meet again, you’ll always be my best friend.”
Humberside Police put out a further appeal last year after the unexplained disappearance of Damion Vernon.
Damion left Bridlington on 8 December 2014 and has not been seen since.
Seven years after the unexplained disappearance of Damion, police are no nearer to finding him despite issuing several appeals for anyone who knows anything about Damion’s disappearance to come forward.
Officers who were investigating his disappearance completed all lines of enquiry in June 2015. Since this time no new lines of enquiry have been found.
Senior Investigating Officer in the case Detective Superintendent Matt Baldwin issued an appeal again in 2020 to anyone who knows anything about Damion to come forward.
In a statement issued last year DS Baldwin said: “The past years have been an extremely difficult time for Damion’s family and we still are no further on in finding out what has happened to Damion.
“Despite conducting large area searches and completing extensive lines of enquiry since the time of Damion’s disappearance we are no clearer to understanding what has happened to him.”
“The media played a huge part in our appeals at the time, however every avenue has drawn a blank.
“There is no suggestion that criminal activity led to Damion going missing and we are keeping an open mind about his disappearance and the case will be kept open as a long term missing person enquiry.”
Damion Vernon, who was 32 at the time he went missing, lived at Headlands Close in Bridlington.
He was reported missing at 1728hrs on Tuesday 09 December 2014, having last been seen the day before on Monday 8 December.
He is reported have travelled to Wakefield on Monday 08 December 2014 in a blue Vauxhall Corsa registration number YH51 FLL.
Investigations have not found any sightings of Damion since he left his vehicle on Sycamore Street in Wakefield.
He is described as white, 6ft tall with a slim build and short wavy light brown hair.
