The votes have been counted and the winner of the third Sewerby Hall/Bridlington Echo East Yorkshire Wildlife Competition has been announced.
After a public vote, Kim Bone with her stunning image entitled ‘Peek-a-Boo’ was the clear winner.
The fabulous picture shows a seal at Selwick’s Bay in Flamborough peeking out from behind its flipper – as though playing a cute game of hide and seek.
Said Kim: “I was just sat there and this seal came out of the water towards me. I managed to get a few images and then moved away to give the animal space.”
It is the second year in a row that Kim has won the competition. Last year Kim’s fabulous image of a fox running, with all four feet off the ground was voted as the winner.
The picture was one of twelve selected by independent judges for display in the Bluebell Wood in the grounds of Sewerby Hall & Gardens.
Each image was enlarged and displayed and members of the public were able to vote for their favourite picture.
Kim wins a fabulous high tea for two at Tiffin & Co, Market Place in the Old Town, a 16 x 20 inch canvas courtesy of the Bridlington Echo and a 12-month season pass to Sewerby Hall and Gardens.
Kim was presented with her prize by the East Riding of Yorkshire Chairman Cll Linda Bayram, during the Yorkshire Day celebrations at Sewerby Hall.
The competition was held in conjunction with the Wildlife Photographer of the Year. An initial entry of over 220 images was whittled down to twelve, which then went to the public vote.
Marie Gascoigne, general manager at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, said: “Yet again there were some absolutely cracking images on display and congratulations to all who were selected.”
Each of the winning entries for the Bluebell Wood has already received tickets to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year which was on display at the Hall. They also get to keep the photograph from the exhibition.
“I am delighted to have won again. It is one of my favourite shots. I was in the right place at the right time.” explained Kim who lives at Nafferton.
Next year, Kim will be on the judging panel for the competition and won’t be eligible to enter. She urged anyone with a great wildlife photo taken in the East Riding to enter the competition, which will be announced in April 2025.
