It will be wise to plan your journey around Bridlington from 30th September…
A major road resurfacing scheme will see improvements being carried out on several routes in Bridlington starting at the end of September.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council will invest £1.6m in the project to resurface a number of roads and carry out patching works on others, in preparation for planned surface dressing – stone chippings being laid to protect road surfaces – in the future.
The scheme is due to start on Monday 30 September and is scheduled to continue until February, being carried out in phases.
Improvements will also be carried out to footpaths and road drainage.
Phase one
Resurfacing will be carried out on the roundabouts at the junction of A165 Scarborough Road and a new zebra crossing will also be installed on Scarborough Road, with work starting on Monday 30 September, scheduled to last four weeks.
The main work will be carried out in the evening to avoid busy travel times.
Well Lane, Marton Road and Market Place will be closed at the roundabouts from 6pm to 11pm, Monday to Friday, from 14 October for up to two weeks.
The roads will remain open at all other times.
Signed diversion routes will be in place during the road closures.
Phase two
The resurfacing scheme will move to Flamborough Road in early November, with work lasting around three weeks under temporary traffic lights.
Side roads will be closed from 9.30am to 3.30pm on weekdays.
The work will be carried out in stages to ensure access is maintained via signed diversion routes as the project progresses along the road.
Phase three
The resurfacing scheme, patching and footpath improvements will continue on to these roads before Christmas:
Cliff Road, Sewerby,
Albert Street,
Sandsacre Road,
Clarence Road,
Marton Road/Pinfold Lane junction.
Phase four
The work will resume in early January with resurfacing and path improvements in:
St Stephens Road, St Thomas Road, and St Andrew Road,
Travis Street.
The final work is due to be carried out in North Street, following a cable replacement by Northern Powergrid. This is likely to be at the end of February.
Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “I want to thank residents and drivers for bearing with us while this scheme is completed.
“This is a big investment as these roads and footpaths in Bridlington need to be upgraded for the future.”
The work will be carried out on behalf of the council by contractor Thomas Bow.
