East Riding of Yorkshire Council planners have approved plans to build a new clubhouse at Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club’s (RYYC) Blyth Park site.
The plan will mean that the RYYC will relocate its main clubhouse from 1-3 Windsor Crescent to the site at Wilsthorpe.
The existing clubhouse at Wilsthorpe will be demolished to make way for a new building which would enable the club to promote the East Riding as a world leader for sailing events and championships.
The new clubhouse is planned to have a balcony, decking on the first floor overlooking the beach and will be five times the size of the current clubhouse. Despite concerns from some locals the plans were approved.
In a planning statement in support of the application it stated: “The Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club’s (RYYC) current main clubhouse is on Windsor Crescent in Bridlington.
“Despite operating from the Bridlington site for decades, it now has become a financial burden on the club.This is largely due to the annual maintenance and running costs of £30-50K a year which
the club is responsible for.
“The erection of a new and improved clubhouse at this site would allow this to continue and showcase the East Riding as a world leader for international sailing championships/ events.”
