Bempton Lane will be closed for a further month after works on construction of a new roundabout have recommenced.

The road, which was opened temporarily over the festive holidays, has been closed since early September 2024, for the building of a new roundabout.

The works are in anticipation of a further housing developments on the north side of Bridlington.

It had be deemed necessary to complete construction on the new roundabout under a full closure.

A spokesperson for East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC), said previously: “The project is expected to take up to six months to complete. For context, the A165 Scarborough Road roundabout took approximately 11 months.”

They stated that the estimated costs for the current construction are around £1 million – considerably lower than the A165 project, which totaled approximately £1.8 million.

However, concerns from local residents have been rising over the length of the road closure and the lack of pedestrian access.

The ERYC spokesperson explained that providing pedestrian access is not feasible due to the site’s narrow conditions and because excavations span the full width of the area.

“The roundabout’s construction is essential for accommodating hundreds of new homes planned for the northern outskirts of Bridlington. This development is intended to unfold in phases over the coming years.” said the ERYC spokesperson.
