Dozens of trees that have been planted at Jubilee Wood in Bridlington have been vandalised… less than 24 hours after volunteers put the saplings into the ground.
Hundreds of saplings were planted by dozens of volunteers yesterday (April 9) which included oak, birch, cherry, hawthorn and beech.
The Green Task Force oversaw instruction for the many volunteers which included veterans, cadets, service groups, Bridlington residents and councillors.
The trees had been donated by The Humber Forest and Woodland Trust, sponsored by ERYC with assistance from Bridlington Town Council.
The Jubilee Wood is situated on Bessingby Road and the mass tree plant had gone ahead with special permission from DEFRA as this had been the last planting of the season.
Bridlington resident and veteran Mike Rubery was one of the volunteers who helped with yesterday’s planting session
“I like the other veterans of Bridlington that helped with this project are very disappointed in the few mindless individuals that think it’s fun to destroy things.” said Mike.
“I know the majority of young people in Bridlington take pride in their town but these individuals should hang their heads in shame as these trees were being planted, not only for their future enjoyment and pleasure, but also to benefit the planet.” he added.
