Well-known Bridlington resident Val
Thompson has recently retired from the Quay Road SPAR after an amazing 46 years of providing excellent customer service to the community.

From keeping the store clean and looking after the lottery to making great cups of tea and coffee, Val was always happy to help with a smile on her face.
Said Val: “I have seen a lot of customers grow up in front of me and they
now bring in children of their own. I have worked with some amazing
colleagues and customers over the years and will miss seeing them all on a regular basis.”

Throughout her years of service, Val has witnessed the business change from Frank Dees to the Late Shopper brand to what is now SPAR.
The company celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2022, and the Bridlington branch temporarily closed in this year for a complete refresh and
refurbishment.

Store manager at the SPAR, Becky Sunley, said: “Val was a valued member of the SPAR team and was loved by lots of colleagues and customers and it will be hard not seeing her at work every day.”
Becky added that Val should now get to enjoy her well-earned rest after providing such brilliant service to the community for 46 years, with her final
message to the dedicated employee being… “we will all miss you lots.”

The SPAR was founded in the Netherlands in 1932 and stores were firs established in the UK in 1956. SPAR is now one of the world’s largest food retail chain with over 13,000 stores around the world.
