A wild roe deer that became stuck between iron railings in the grounds of Sewerby Hall & Gardens was successfully rescued, thanks to the quick thinking of the zoo staff and the help of a local vet.
The zoo team received reports of a wild roe deer stuck between the iron railings in the grounds of Sewerby and in distress.
The deer had sustained some injuries and was struggling to free herself – but unfortunately she was unable to do so.

Aldgate Veterinary Practice were contacted and along with the zoo keepers they managed to successfully manoeuvre the deer and free her from the railings.
A spokesman for Sewerby Hall & Gradens explained: “An examination was performed to determine the extent of her injuries.

“Miraculously all injuries were only superficial with some hair loss and bruising and the vets are confident she will make a full recovery.
“She was then given some pain relief and an anti- inflammatory to keep her comfortable.

“The zoo team checked on the deer throughout the day as she recovered from the sedative and they are delighted to report that before long she was up on her feet and on her way.

“We would also like to thank Aldgate vets for their assistance in this rescue operation.”
