As the summer holidays begin the Coastguard have put out this reminder about how to stay safe on a visit to the seaside.
Bridlington’s coast is a stunning place to enjoy the sunshine, sea air, and unforgettable views, but the sea can be as dangerous as it is beautiful.
Whether you’re walking the cliffs, paddling with the kids, or out on the water, your safety is our top priority.
KNOW WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY:
If you see someone in trouble on the beach, in the sea, or along the cliffs — DIAL 999 and ask for the COASTGUARD.
We’re often called out to incidents where precious time is lost because people simply don’t realise:
HM Coastguard is an official 999 emergency service, just like police, fire, or ambulance.
We’re ready 24/7 to respond to:
• People cut off by the tide
• Cliff falls or injuries
• Stranded swimmers, surfers, or kayakers
• Lost children or vulnerable people near the water
• Anything else that poses a coastal danger
👀 And please, don’t try to rescue anyone yourself. Call us. We have the equipment, training, and backup to do it safely.
TOP COASTAL SAFETY TIPS:
• Check tide times before heading out
• Keep dogs on leads near cliff edges
• Stay away from the edge — cliffs can crumble with no warning
• Wear suitable footwear for coastal walks
• Keep an eye on children at all times
• Carry a fully charged phone
Let’s all enjoy the coast safely this summer. If in doubt — call us out.
