A new attraction will be on show in Bridlington town centre tomorrow (16th November) along with the festive lights switch on and a weekend long food festival.
The Bridlington Ice Trail will feature a variety of stunning frozen sculptures for one day only with a ‘Christmas on the Coast’ theme, with lots of locals and visitors expected to come and see the frozen creations.
The free event takes place on Saturday, 16 November from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
Organisers from ERYC have said: “The Ice Trail will depict traditional Christmas scenes as well maritime wonders, reflecting Bridlington’s rich coastal heritage.
“One of the most exciting additions to the trail will be a live ice carving in which a sculptor will craft an impressive Yuletide masterpiece from an enormous block of ice. The fascinating glacial art carving will begin around 12 noon and take 2 to 3 hours to complete.
“Breathtaking fire and ice shows will be sure to bring joy to spectators, igniting their love of Christmas through choreographed performances.
These shows will take place at 1pm, 3pm and 5.15pm and will feature ice sculpting using chainsaws and power tools, synchronised with a pyrotechnic display set to music.
“Should visitors need a helping hand on their icy quest, a friendly team will be there to provide guidance every step of the way.
Throughout the weekend (Saturday 16th and 17th November) King Street will also play host the Bridlington Christmas Food Festival so
visitors will have the opportunity to make the most of the delicious delights on offer whilst perhaps partaking in a spot of Christmas shopping.
The Bridlington Town Council Christmas tree and street lights will be switched on following the Ice Festival.
BBC TV Look North newsreader Peter Levy has agreed to flick the switch to illuminate the town’s lights and tree, with help from Bridlington Mayor Cllr Rick Arrand, the Round Table Santa Claus and his helpers.
Mayor Arrand told the Echo: “there is so much going on in the town centre over the weekend. There is something for everyone with the Christmas Loghts switch-on, Ice Trail, Food Festival and all our local shops embracing the festive fun.”
Angela Langton, who created the hugely popular food markets with Julie Boyes from the Bridlington Market Traders Group, was delighted that Peter Levy had once again agreed to be the guest of honour at the light switch on.
Said Angela: “The weekend of festivities will have something for everyone and as well as 50 plus food stalls attending the Sunday Food Festival, there will be a full market on the Saturday.”
“Peter Levy has again kindly agreed to be the guest of honour and switch on the lights… it should be a great weekend for the town.”
There will be over 50 unique market stalls, many filled to the brim with local, regional and international cuisine, locally brewed real ales and spirits.
Bridlington Round Table is opening up a Santa’s Grotto once again this year, with Father Christmas ready to greet hundreds of youngsters (and adults) to his specially made winter-themed grotto.
All funds raised from this will be used to help people in the Bridlington Community.
