A pet cat that had been missing for 116 days has been reunited with her grateful owner.

Twelve-year-old Scarlet went missing from Hermitage Road in Bridlington on September 9 last year and owner, Laura Lewis, spoke to the Echo saying that despite the ordeal being a nightmare, she never gave up hope of finding her safe and well.

“Scarlet had gone outside at night as per usual, but it was raining and she was under the car port. I called her but she ignored me. Usually she’s only out for a short time…and she comes in no bother, but that night she was ignoring me. I tried again later but couldn’t find her.” explained Laura.

“After a day went by I was frantic, wondering where she could be. It was so out of character for her to be missing for so long. As the days went on I couldn’t sleep for worrying about her, imagining all kinds of scenarios like had she been knocked down. I phoned round all the vets in the area – even as far as Harrogate – but nobody had seen her.”

Every day Scarlet was missing, Laura was posting on Facebook twice a daily and she also printed hundreds of posters and distributed them around the local area.

“I also posted leaflets through letterboxes in the hope that someone had seen Scarlet. I never stopped looking for her and truly believed that one day I would get her home.” continued Laura.

Then in early January – after months of searching and heartache -Laura’s prayers were answered.

“I got a phone call from PrioryVets in the Old Town on January 4 and they told me they had Scarlet. They had scanned her chip and called me straightaway. It turned out Scarlet had been spotted at the rear of Priory Church by a lady who recognised her from my Facebook pictures.”

The lady had managed to entice Scarlet into a shopping trolley and took her to PrioryVets.

“I was there within minutes.” Said Laura.” Straight away, I knew it was Scarlet just by her meow. I hugged her and hugged her and was in tears…she was found and in perfect health.”

Non-the-worse for her ordeal scarlet was described by Laura as being slightly fatter than usual, but thankfully uninjured

“I phoned the lady who had found her and thanked her for her help… getting Scarlet back gives hope to many people out there whose cat is missing.” added Laura.

For now, Scarlet is grounded and enjoying lots of attention and cuddles.
