The Bridlington Coastguard and Rescue Team has had a busy period recently, with call outs to six incidents yesterday (9th September) and have asked the Echo to relay this message to the public.

A spokesman for the Coastguard, explained:
“The team have been very busy with incidents over the last few days – dealing with 6 yesterday alone.
“We always try and respond to messages and comments when we can, however it is not always appropriate to comment.

“Our team of volunteers give up their time alongside our volunteer colleagues from the RNLI to help those in need.
“We really couldn’t do it without the co-operation of members of the public.
“ So from us to you, thank you for helping us and listening to safety advice given on scene.
The statement continued:
“The team were called out yesterday (9 September) to 6 separate coastal emergencies, these ranged from missing children, broken down boats and casualty care & extraction.
The team worked tirelessly through the day and into the night providing Search and Rescue cover alongside our colleagues form the Filey Coastguard, HM Coastguard Helicopter, Yorkshire Ambulance and Air Ambulance and RNLI Bridlington.
“These incidents come as a timely reminder that whilst the coast can be fun it can also be very dangerous if you are not prepared”
In the event of a coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for the coastguard and please listen to the instructions from the Coastguards on the scene of an incident.
