Bridlington’s final Food Festival of the year has been cancelled because of forecast extreme winds, with organisers putting the safety of traders and visitors first.
The event, due to take place this Sunday, (25 October, 2026), has been called off due to winds expected to reach 50mph.
A Food Festival spokesperson said the decision had been made “with a heavy heart”, marking the first time a festival has been cancelled since the events began in 2023.
The spokesperson said: “Due to the extreme wind on Sunday, it’s with a heavy heart we will need to cancel this Sunday’s last Food Festival.
“It’s the first time ever since we began in 2023, but at 50mph that’s just not safe for traders and customers.
“We take safety very seriously. I can only apologise, but Mother Nature has its way.”
Organisers thanked everyone who had supported the festivals over the past three years and urged people to stay safe over the weekend.
Although Sunday’s event will not go ahead, the regular market continues every Wednesday and Saturday, weather permitting, throughout the year.
There is also more to look forward to in November, with a two-day market planned for Saturday and Sunday, November 14 and 15, as part of the Ice Festival weekend.
Looking ahead to 2027, organisers have confirmed there will be four Food Festivals, with dates still to be announced.
The spokesperson added: “Thanks for all your support over the years.
“Fingers crossed the weather is kind to us. Stay safe this weekend and we look forward to seeing you all in 2027.
