Following an extensive inspection and unit review, Bridlington Sea Cadets TS Pathfinder SCC has been awarded their first Efficiency Pennant for 2023.
CO, Pretty Officer Martin Jolly commented: “There are three distinct levels of awards: commendations, pennants (a pointed flag) and then burgees (a small square flag).
Added Martin: “Last year the group received a commendation certificate, and our aim is to reach the top award; the burgee. We are ecstatic that our first pennant bears the King’s cypher”.
The ships company visited the Bridlington Harbour Dredger and, at the end of the tour, BHC Chair, Mr. Neil Oram, presented the pennant to Cadet of the Year, Charlotte White, on the bridge of the Gypsy Race.
Bridlington Mayor, Councillor John Arthur and his wife and lady mayoress, joined the ships company at their HQ to see the team enjoying their recreation night and hand over the new sailing safety helmets.
The purchase of the safety helmets were made possible by the Bridlington’s Town Council Small Grants Award which were awarded in June.
The helmets are now mandatory for juniors or any training sailors under RYA Level 1 qualified.
“It’s a delight to see the small grants enabling the cadets, learning to sail in safety. We hope they get many years of sailing experience in the years to come.” said Mayor John Arthur.
