The dates and opening times for the Bridlington Autumn Charter Funfair have been announced – and this year it will return to its usual site at Moorfield Road Car Park in the town and run from 16 to 20 October.

Last year thousands of visitors flocked to the traditional event which dates back centuries and is one of the oldest Charter Fairs in the country.

Yorkshire Section of the Great Britain Showmen’s Guild spokesman for Bridlington Funfair John Breeze said: “We are extremely pleased to be coming back to Bridlington and back on to the usual site at Moorfield Car Park.”

“There will be plenty of large rides and a big choice of and juvenile rides, plus the usual array of prize stalls, including refreshment stalls, food and drink – plus the usual traditions such as brandy snap and candy floss.”The official opening of the Funfair will take place at 5pm on Wednesday 16 October, with the Mayor, other dignitaries and members of the Showmen’s Guild in attendance. As is tradition each ride that the Mayor has a turn on is also open for locals to ride.

At the opening ceremony the Fair Bells which were owned by the late James Robinson, will be rung out to herald the start of what must be one of Bridlington’s longest running, continuous events and one of the oldest charter fairs in the country.
