A Bridlington Royal Navy veteran has spoken of his devastation after discovering dozens of trees that were planted only two months have been vandalised.

Mike Rubery, who is Royal Naval veteran and is also a member of several local service groups in Bridlington, made the discovery this morning (24 June) after visiting the Jubilee Wood on Bessingby Road in Bridlington.
Veterans, volunteers, cadets and local civic leaders helped to plant dozens of saplings earlier in the year, some to mark the Queens Jubilee.
Said Mike: “I’m disappointed and sad to see that all the effort that Bridlington veterans, cadet forces and the local community volunteers put in to planting Jubilee Woods has been wasted.
“It took a few days to plant and protect the saplings with cover guards and it’s all been destroyed in a matter of weeks. Sadly the generation this would have benefitted have been let down by one or two vandals that thought it would be good fun to rip off the covers and destroy the saplings.”
