The recent run of high seas and easterly winds that have brought several days of stormy weather have revealed a centuries old feature which has be exposed on Bridlington’s North Beach.

With a deep layer of sand stripped from the beach just below the Esplanade/ Beaconsfield Promenade area, wood and brick foundations have been revealed.

It is understood to be an old wooden jetty, possibly one used by small pleasure craft in the days when hiring a rowing boat was part and parcel of the traditional seaside holiday.

Historians have suggested that some form of landing jetty had been situated in this area of the beach for centuries.
It also portrays the sea defences and seafront promenade before the Victoria Terraces were constructed in 1906.

Do you have any illustration, photo or knowledge of history of Bridlington’s wooden landing platforms and jetty’s?
