The proprietors of a popular pub in Bridlington are saying ‘cheers’ after learning that their establishment has been recognised as one of the top 500 pubs in England.
The Old Ship Inn, located on St John Street, made it onto The Telegraph’s esteemed list of the 500 Best Pubs in England.
Compiling the comprehensive list was pub connoisseur Will Hawkes, who has explored thousands of pubs throughout his career and spent the past few months traveling across the nation to enhance his expertise, as detailed by The Telegraph.
Pubs were chosen for the list based on their “charming character, inviting staff, rich heritage, and, of course, exceptional beer.”
The complete list of 500 pubs is available on The Telegraph’s website, featuring a searchable format that categorises them into various types, such as family-friendly, pet-friendly, venues with live music, and those known for their cuisine.
The Telegraph article says that:
Bridlington is often referred to as the “Lobster Capital of Europe,” as it boasts the highest shellfish landings in the UK. There are few places as welcoming as The Old Ship Inn. Over the years, owners Lena and Mark Pennington have transformed this quaint three-room pub into the go-to spot in Bridlington for a refreshing pint.”
Mark and Lena have become well-known figures in the local community, frequently organizing events and supporting veterans and various charitable organisations.
The Old Ship Inn in Bridlington was voted CAMRA Pub of the Year for the second year in a row in 2023 and has achieved a 5-star cellar rating from both Beer Marque and Cask Marque.
