Residents and visitors are being invited to uncover the fascinating stories behind Bridlington’s historic Old Town during this year’s Heritage Open Day’s History on Your Doorstep event.
Taking place on Saturday, September 19, from 10.30am to 4pm at the Priory Church Rooms, the popular heritage event will celebrate the town’s rich past and the people who helped shape it.
Reflecting this year’s national heritage theme of everyday working lives, exhibits will explore the history of local trades including butchers, bakers, clockmakers and booksellers. Visitors will also be able to follow the story of a local family and their businesses through the Quay area, while learning more about notable Bridlington figures such as Francis Johnson and William Kent.
The event will showcase local heritage groups and organisations working to preserve the town’s history, alongside displays from an archaeological project, a young potter and Bridlington’s twinning team.
There will be guided walks around Church Green and the Priory Churchyard, while local sculptor Steve Carvill will discuss his celebrated works, including the Gansey Girl and Barrow Boy sculptures.
The Bayle Museum will be open, Old Town’s Blue Plaque trail can be explored, and visitors can enjoy the area’s galleries, cafés, shops and free car park throughout the day.
